Parks Dept Thanked For “Fantastic Service”

November 30, 2017

The Friends of Hospice & Hannover Re race organisers have extended their thanks to Parks Department, for what they said was their “fantastic service to the community.”

Dirk Hasselkuss said they wanted to especially wanted to acknowledge Mr Roger Parris and Ms Shyeann Outerbridge, saying that, “As organizers of the Friends of Hospice & Hannover Re walk/run we were faced with having to possibly cancel our event at short notice because of an apocalyptic mosquito infestation at the event site, the Tucker’s property opposite the bottom end of the Botanical Gardens.

“I guess the flooding was as a result of the high tides [“warm eddy” around Bermuda] in the last couple of weeks, and had caused the unexpected problem.

“Only realizing the severity of the situation on the afternoon of the day before the event, we were hoping to be able to move the event just across the road to the Botanical Gardens.

“Fortunately, runner legend, Mr. Steven Burgess, was able to give us a contact number for Mr. Roger Parris who in turn gave us the number of Ms. Shyeann Outerbride.

“Ms. Outerbridge was kindly willing to meet me at Government offices shortly after 6pm on a Saturday evening for me to fill out the application for a permit, approve same and then in turn call Mr. Parris back to ask him if he was willing to open up the gate to the Botanical Gardens at 6:30am the next [Sunday!] morning, which he was.

“This was absolutely amazing and a fantastic service to the community. At 6:30am, the gate to the Botanical Gardens was open, race organizers and volunteers could set up on time for the event, and close to 300 participants and volunteers were able to enjoy a wonderful event in Bermudaful weather….without being eaten alive by mosquitos!

“Thanks a million, and best regards on behalf of the Friends of Hospice/Hannover Re team,” Mr Hasselkuss added.
